Chittagong is very famous for the ship breaking industry, and known as the place where all the old ships are going to die. Ship breaking is a big business here in Bangladesh. The industry began 1960 in Bangladesh and now there are around 80 ship breaking yards in Chittagong which meet up 50% of the country’s steel demand. Chittagong is able to grow so quickly as a ship breaking harbor for cheap labour and a low standard of working environment. There are around 2,00,000 employees working in this industry directly. Working in the ship breaking yard is considered as one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.
